A screen filter consists of a housing made of steel pipe or engineering plastic and a stainless‑steel screen. Its simple structure makes it easy to install, and it is the most widely used type of filter in irrigation systems. It is particularly effective at removing inorganic impurities from water. As water passes through the screen, particles larger than the mesh openings are trapped. As contaminants accumulate on the screen, the pressure drop across the filter increases. The screen must then be cleaned – either manually or by an automatic flushing device – to restore normal operation. In water sources with poor quality, screen filters are often used in combination with sand‑media filters or centrifugal filters. An automatic flushing system can also be implemented by installing a solenoid valve and controller on the drain port to carry out programmed cleaning and flushing.
